“If you always do what you have always done you will always get what you have always gotten” – Wizard of Oz
Class Expectations:
Welcome to Mr. Campbell's class! In my classroom I have 3 expectations for each of my students on a daily basis:
1) I expect everyone to come to class every day with a lot of energy; everything we do in class will require you to be upbeat and have a good attitude.
2) I expect you to talk in class…..let me explain. We will be heavily depending on each other to learn and to accomplish our goals on a daily basis, this will require you to be able to talk and communicate with you classmates.
3) I expect everyone to listen; this is probably the most important of any of my expectations. Anyone can talk, but not very many people are able to listen effectively.
Material:
The following materials are needed in class daily:
- Science Composition Notebook (Will be left in my room but free to take home if need be)
- Pencil/Pen
- School Planner
Everything else is provided (markers, colored pencils, glue, tape, staples, paper)
Homework:
I don't like homework. As long as you use your time wisely in class, complete labs/activities in a timely manner, and are not behind then I'll make you a promise.
I WON'T GIVE HOMEWORK!
The only time you will have to work at home for my class is to study for tests/quizzes or to finish up question on a lab, activity or assignment. (Adequate time will be given in class to finish all labs, activities and assignments) I do not assign homework for the sake of practice at home.
Knowledge Map/Learning Checks:
At the beginning of the year, you are given a knowledge map. This contains a list of all the essential content knowledge you will learn by the end of the year. This list is still a work in progress and items may be added or deleted as time allows.
Missing or Late-work:
If you are missing, then you are responsible for making up the missed assignments or labs. Check with other students, my website, or come talk to me about making up work. Being absent from class does not mean exempt from work. We all have busy lives, thus if you cannot complete an assignment on time, get it to me as soon as possible. I do not take off points for late work. Getting it done is more important than done on time. However, we do move at a brisk pace, and if you fall behind because of lack of work ethic then you will need to get caught up. On unit test days is the last day I will take work from that particular unit.
Class Rules:
1. The "Dark Side" is NOT welcome. If you watch Star Wars then you know what the Dark Side is. If you don't, negative attitudes, bad decision making and devious behavior to myself or classmates is the dark side. Leave it outside.
2. Follow Directions the First Time. Time and materials are precious. Repeating directions or procedures excessively because you were not listing is troublesome. Also destroying or damaging lab material because you did not follow directions is annoying.
3. Come to Class Prepared. Have everything you need for class (pencil, paper, lab sheets) Keep up with your stuff. Mental preparation is also a must. I know life exists outside my class and you have other priorities, but focus on the task at hand when you are in my class.
4. Respect thy Classmates. This goes towards me and towards other students. We will be doing a ton of talking in class; conversations between students and teachers along with students to students. If I need your attention then please give it quickly. If another student is talking, show them respect and give them your attention.
5. Clean Up After Yourself. Please clean up your lab area at the end of class. Don't leave a mess for me or the next class.
